After reading Ms. Ernest's first Brockport book I had to order this one. I love the heartwarming and humor filled stories of this pleasant place. This story takes us through the holidays in this little town. For some the holidays can be challenging and somewhat depressing. If you fit into the catergory of ( let's just get through the holiday season) read this fun book. From the wedding of town royalty to the very last page I felt a part of this fun community.
Anyone who familiar with Erma Bombeck and her hilarious stories, will appreciate the down-home humor Janice Ernest gives the reader in Brocksport, Back Again. Thankfully, she has multiplied her stories of Brocksport citizens and their unbelievable, but funny, antics in this second book of the Brocksport series. This would be an excellent book to read as the three major holidays approach toward the end of the year. On Hallowe'en, Deputy Sheriff Maynard Junebug of the Brocksport Police Department dons a bat costume to wear to a party--a costume that makes him look like a "large crushed cockroach and a black blob behind the wheel" of his police car.That doesn't keep him from chasing a driver breaking the speed limit and issuing him a warning--because it is a holiday. Through clever description, the reader sees the "criminal's" reaction as Maynard's bat wings spread out as he reaches for the driver's license and registration. Thanksgiving prompts the story of Lewis, the Brocksport Turkey. And what happens when Moonbeam, reaching full term with her pregnancy on Christmas Eve, has to get to the hospital and the only route is right through the middle of the Chrismas parade? This is a book to pick up and read when things are in disarray in anyone's life. Every page, every story is packed with the delightful humor that every small town resident can probably relate to.
Left me wanting to know more about the quirky residents of Brockport. I hope Janice Ernest will continue this series.
